ACT FAQs

The registration fees for the ACT is USD 150 (without essay) and USD 166.50 (with essay). Test fee is inclusive of the cost of sending your score reports to four colleges that you choose when you register for the test.
  • English scores range from 1-36, in 1-point increments
  • Mathematics scores range from 1-36, in 1-point increments
  • Reading scores range from 1-36, in 1-point increments
  • Science scores range from 1-36, in 1-point increments
  • Writing (optional) scores range from 2-12
  • Composite scores ranging from 1-36, are an average of the above four sections
It is one of the various criteria that the admission council looks at. However, a good ACT score does improve chances of admission.
You should create an ACT web account and then register for the exam on international test dates. Choose your preferred test option, test date and the colleges to which you want to send your scores, and pay the registration fees online at www.act.org.
ACT is conducted 24 times in a year. ACT is held in almost all major cities in India on two consecutive dates in the months of September, October, December, February, April and June. On each date, the exam is conducted twice - morning and afternoon.
ACT can be taken no more than 12 times in a lifetime.
ACT scores remain valid for 5 years from the date the test was taken.
Scores are released within two weeks after your test date. To know more, visit ACT’s official website act.org
Every ACT test has a late registration deadline that typically falls one week before the date of test. You can reschedule your test or change the testing center before this deadline. The cost of rescheduling the test is USD 30.
Basic registration fee and late registration fee of ACT are non-refundable. Refunds are only available for essay section and optional services. So, it is better to reschedule than to cancel.
Generally, universities take the best score. However, it is best to confirm the same from a particular university before applying.
A lot of the top 50 colleges require or recommend the essay.
It is highly recommended to write the ACT with the essay because in almost all the top colleges ACT with the essay is equivalent to SAT and SAT Subject Tests.
The ACT has a science section. So, students think that universities will prefer the ACT score if they are applying for science and engineering programs. However, it is completely untrue. Universities give equal weightage to SAT and ACT scores.
This is another myth about the ACT exam.
The ACT has a Science Section. But the questions are not based on your knowledge of Science. In the Science Section, there are reading passages which are excerpts from scientific journals, and students are required to solve questions based on the information given in the passage. So, essentially, it is a Reading Comprehension section where all the passages are Science passages.
So, even students from Humanities and Commerce background can do well on the ACT exam.
Universities only accept official scores sent directly by the ACT. Scores to four colleges can be sent free of cost while taking the exam. Subsequently, for each score report sent to a college, you would have to pay $13.
You can calculate the official Concordance Table to find out the SAT score that is equivalent to your ACT score. You can access the official Concordance Table here: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/guide-2018-act-sat-concordance.pdf
