A wide platter of scholarships, multicultural bouquet of a crowd, network of quality universities and less anxious parents, Canada does have it all! The country has slowly climbed the ladder to become a hot-spot for foreign education and is now the go-to destination for international students from all over the world. Main attractions for international students are the welcoming and super-friendly locals, stay and work visa after graduation, low crime rates and lower cost of living.

Canadian universities boast of its fine educational system and offer students well-rounded and good quality education, but one of the main obstacles international students face is finding the funding to cover a substantial tuition fees. In such cases, students who have consistent grades and good GPAs through high school have the option of applying for a scholarship to get into the program of their choice. Although, scholarships are highly competitive with thousands of students from all over the world applying for them, with the right kind of profile, it is possible to bag them.

Undergraduate scholarships offered by the Government:

1. Education Future International Scholarship:

It offers partial funding for all the courses and is open for Indian Nationals.

2. University of Winnipeg-President’s Scholarship for World Leaders:

It is a partial-funding scholarship applicable for subjects offered by the university and open to all international students.

3. Arthur F. Church Entrance Scholarships:

It is a partially-funded scholarship for engineering and various other specializations. It is open to all nationals.

4. Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development:

Students eligible for this scholarship should be citizens of ASEAN member states (India is not a member of ASEAN). A partial funding international scholarship is offered by the Government of Canada. The value of the scholarship is up to CAD 15,900.

5. University of Waterloo-David Johnston-Lebovic Foundation International Experience Awards in Canada:

Several awards are provided annually to full-time undergraduate and graduate students who participate in an international experience in Israel. Awards are valued at up to $2,500 – $10,000 each, and will be given on the basis of academic achievement (normally a minimum 70% average at the undergraduate level; normally a minimum 75% average at the graduate level), as well as the type and duration of the experience.

6. Berows International Scholarship Program Test (BISPT):

It is a fully-funded scholarship for all courses and open to all nationals.

7. UCW Special Targeted Regional Award Program:

It is a partial-funding scholarship for students hailing from Mauritius, Morocco, Mongolia, Turkey, and South Korea.

8. Beth Ann DeBouvre Scholarship:

It is a partially-funded scholarship for all courses considered but is open to only USA students.

9. AIWA Lucy Kasparian Aharonian Scholarship:

It offers partial funding for subjects namely, science, mathematics, technology, engineering, computer science and architecture. Although it is only open to female applicants of Armenian descent.

10. Throlson American Bison Foundation Scholarships:

It is a partially-funded scholarship for subjects such as livestock studies, veterinary, agriculture, human nutrition, and animal science. It is open to US nationals only.

11. Storm and Associates Annual Military Scholarship:

It is a partial funding for courses offered by the college, open to military veterans of the United States Armed Forces and their immediate family members.

12. Cogan and Power Academic Scholarship:

It is a partial funding offered for all courses at the college, offered every year to the student who submits the strongest essay focusing on the given topic. It is open to US nationals only.

Undergraduate scholarships offered by Universities and Private Institutes:

1. Lester B. Pearson International Scholarships:

University of Toronto offers the Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship Program to recognize international students with exceptional academic excellence and creativity along with being recognized as leaders in their schools. The scholarship covers tuition fees, incidental fees, books and full residence support for a duration of four years.

2. University of British Columbia Scholarships for International Students:

UBC devotes more than $10 million CAD annually to awards, scholarships and other forms of financial assistance to international students for demonstrating outstanding academic achievement from all over the world.

3. Calgary International Entrance Scholarships:

It is a very prestigious award that recognizes the excellent accomplishments of an international student who starts their undergraduate studies at the university.

4. York University International Student Scholarship Program:

International students that secure admission to York University and have an excellent academic record become eligible for scholarships worth $60,000-$100,000 for a four-year degree program.

5. Carleton Prestige Scholarships:

Includes a variety of scholarships such as, the Chancellor’s Scholarship, the Richard Lewar Entrance Scholarship, the Carleton University SHAD Scholarship, the Carleton University Scholarship of Excellence that have a value of CAD 20,000-30,000 and the Riordon Scholarship and the Collins Prestige Scholarship covers full tuition fees for four years.

6. Humber College International Entrance Scholarships:

A renewable full and partial tuition scholarship to new International students who begin classes in September and January of each year.

7. Concordia University International Undergraduate Awards:

Offers two kinds of scholarships, first Entrance Scholarships which are available to full time students entering university studies for the first time. Selection is automatic, based on academic ranking as assigned by the university.
Second, In Course Scholarships which are available to students who have completed at least one academic year in full time study at Concordia University. These have additional eligibility criteria such as contribution to student life, or enrolment in a particular study discipline and GPA achieved at Concordia.

8. Fairleigh Dickinson Scholarships for International Students:

The Fairleigh Dickinson University offers a range of merit scholarships up to $24,000 per year for international undergraduate students. The scholarship is provided based on academic merit and is renewable for four years.
