Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a private land-grant research university situated in Cambridge, Massachusetts. MIT is one of the top universities in the world & is ranked #1 in QS Global World Rankings 2021. The university is known for its advanced knowledge and educating students in science and technology.

History:

Established in 1861, MIT is today a pioneer in shaping the future of undergraduate & graduate students. In 1865, 4 years after its incorporation, the university admitted its first student, and in 1871, first women student got admission in the university.

MIT has adopted a European polytechnic university model & stresses laboratory instruction in applied science & engineering. MIT University is owned & governed by a privately appointed board of trustees known as the MIT Corporation. This corporation approves the budget, new programs, degrees & faculty appointments. The corporation is also responsible for selecting the President, which serves as the chief executive officer of the university.

MIT Investment Management Company is another subsidiary that manages the endowment & other financial assets of the university.

MIT was established while keeping in mind a new kind of independent educational institution. The main focus of the university academic methodology is teaching & researching to solve real-world problems.

The university incorporates 30 departments across 5 schools. There are more than 1067 faculty members and the Institute’s board of trustees, which includes 78 eminent leaders in science, education, engineering, politics & other professionals.
