UG Admission Requirements for Indian Students

UG Admission Requirements - Public Universities

  • Indian Class 12 (CBSE< ISC & State Boards) does NOT qualify for direct admission
  • Path A: Complete 1 year of a related Bachelor's at a recognised Indian university
  • Path B: Attend a 1-year German Studienkolleg, pass FSP exam, then apply
  • Minimum 70% in Class 12 (all boards: CBSE, ISC, State)
  • APS Certificate — mandatory for all Indian applicants
  • Apply via uni-assist.de. German required for German-taught programs (B2/C1)

UG Admission Requirements - Private Universities

  • Indian Class 12 (CBSE/ISC/State) accepted directly
  • Minimum 70% in Class 12 recommended (holistic review)
  • APS Certificate — mandatory for German student visa
  • IELTS 6.0–6.5 minimum (TOEFL iBT 80–90)
  • Apply directly on university portal — no uni-assist needed
  • Some require an aptitude test / interview / portfolio. Rolling admissions — apply early.

Since 2014, most public universities in Germany abolished tuition fees for both domestic and international students. There are, however, nominal administrative and public transportation charges that students do incur while studying in Germany.
Graduates from good German universities are highly employable. As German universities maintain close relationships with the industry, many students undertake live research projects while studying. This enables them to come into contact with potential employers. Also, many academicians at German universities hold positions in the industry which helps interested students secure connections and interviews when looking for jobs after graduation in Germany.
Almost all undergraduate courses in public German colleges are taught in the German language. As such one is required to provide proof of proficiency in German-TestDaF, DSH, etc. Most universities, on their website, mention the type of certificate, level or score that is required for the program that you are interested in.
