University of Toronto Eligibility Criteria for Indian Students

Toronto has a specified a minimum eligibility criteria for Indian students to apply successfully. This is as follows:

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree (e.g. courses like BPharm, MBBS, BDS, BTech, BEng, BArch, etc.) or 3- year bachelor’s degree followed by 2-year Master’s degree.
  • Minimum GPA: 1st Div or 8.0/10; 7.5/10 from Indian Institutes of Technology
  • Minimum TOEFL score – 93 or minimum IELTS score – 7
  • GMAT or GRE score requirement as per program
  • Work experience may be required as per program

Above requirements are general admission requirements. Specific programs may need you to meet additional criteria.

University of Toronto Application Procedure

U of T requires you to apply online for admissions to Master’s programs. You will need to submit the following documents while applying:

  • Fill out questions in the online application
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation
  • Résumé
  • IELTS or TOEFL score
  • Academic transcripts from all institutions, undergraduate and graduate
  • Application fees of CAD$ 125

Some Master’s programs may also need you to write a short essay, submit your portfolio or appear for an interview. Once you submit your application, you will receive an acknowledgement email within two weeks. You will also get a set of instructions where you can check the status of your application.

Is it hard to get into University of Toronto for Indian Students?

University of Toronto’s acceptance rate for Masters program is 43%. Meaning that students have a decent chance of admit if they meet the admission requirements. Although different faculties have different requirements, it is safe to say that a GRE score of 315+ or GMAT score of 650+ are good enough to apply if you have a strong profile. For programs with GMAT or GRE waiver, IELTS score of 7 or more (with individual section score of minimum 6.5) is imperative.

Tuition cost for international graduate students at University of Toronto ranges from $24,960 to $67,160 depending upon the program. Aside from tuition you will incur living costs ranging from $8,000 to $15,000 per year depending upon your residence, food and transportation options.

University of Toronto offers hundreds of student awards each year worth more than $106 million. Student awards are based on merit or financial need or a combination of both. Some scholarships that graduate and doctoral applicants can apply for are: Connaught International Scholarship (variable), Delta Kappa Gamma World Fellowships ($4,000; only for female students), Mackenzie King Open & Travelling Scholarship ($10,500) and Dean’s Master of Information Scholarships ($5,000).
