A Complete Guide to ISB Admissions Criteria

Part 1: The Explicit Requirements – ISB Admission Criteria

ISB admissions in the PGP program requires a number of critical and necessary features of its students.

  1. Work Experience

Minimum two years of Full-Time work experience is required by the cut-off date of March 31st. ISB reserves the right to verify the employment information.

Only one activity can be considered Full time at a time. If you are engaged in other activities, such as an internship, a Start-up, or an additional education etc., the other activities are considered part-time. In absence of full-time work experience, if you worked part-time in multiple organisations in the same period, and the total number of work hours add up to 40+ per week, then you are allowed to mark one of the organisations as full-time and list the others as part-time.

For Medical graduates (MBBS, BDS, equivalent Physiotherapy), the one-year mandatory internship/house surgeon duty to obtain the degree is considered as education and will not be considered as full-time work experience. However, a subsequent Master’s degree in Medical, Dental, or Physiotherapy education is classified as ‘part-time’ study, and its entire duration will be counted as ‘full-time’ professional experience. This ISB admissions criteria is for the medical students.

For CA professionals as per the ISB admission criteria, the three-year articleship/internship is not considered towards the fulfilment of this requirement – that of, two years of post-education Full time work experience. However, candidates must add the same period as part-time in the Education history and full-time in the Employment history. In summary, a CA professional must have completed two years of Full-time work experience after the end of their articleship to be eligible for PGP ISB admissions.

Average work experience at ISB was 4.1 years in 2024.

  2. Test scores / GMAT etc.

An appropriate Test score is a mandatory requirement in the ISB application. GMAT is the most popular Test score with an average of 717 in the year 2024. Students may also submit the valid scores from GMAT classic edition (from the previous format of the GMAT) or GRE test score. While scores from the last five years are valid, only the scores obtained at a Centre based Test is acceptable at the ISB admissions. For the GMAT test, The School Code for ISB is N2D-J5-01. The School Code for ISB in GRE is 7892. It is required to submit a scanned copy of the Test report received at the Test center. You are also required to send your score to ISB through the original Testing body (MBA.com for GMAT and ETS.com for GRE)

  3. Language Proficiency

The test score is required only if the language of instruction at the undergraduate level was not English. Candidates must upload their unofficial score report. The official score report must be sent to ISB admission by the original Testing authority.

  4. Documents

In Proof of Income: upload payslip of any of the last 3 months. For self-employed: provide a self-declaration along with income of the last 12 months and professional details.

Part 2: Best Practices and the Hidden Requirements – ISB Admissions Criteria

ISB Cohort – “The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack”

ISB is one of the most popular aspirational institutions that attracts the attention of many high potential candidates across their most productive years in the workforce. Additionally, ISB admissions team understands the responsibility placed on them to continue the legacy of high achievers of the ISB Alumni group. The objective of ISB Admissions committee is to sift through thousands of applications and place in front of the Alumni board the students that are most ready to have the year of transformation. Note that this description excludes the idea that the student must be from a specific background or demographic. In fact, in the student body of 800 students of the PGP Class of 2025, 500 have clocked less than 4 years of work experience, 300 between 4 and 8 years and about 50 have more than 8 years of experience. This variation demonstrates that there is no ‘one ideal age’ to go into ISB, though more young candidates make great use of ISB admission than their senior peers.

In the more competitive groups – Engineering, Consulting and Technology, a higher-than-average GMAT or knowledge of Calculus and/or Statistics is also valued.

The Ideal ISB candidates are, therefore, the people who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and have the drive to achieve the career acceleration while possessing strong skillset in their domain, great academic track record, and practical communication skills while making their team work alongside themselves is a prominent ISB admission criteria.
