The honors degree
- Honors degree most commonly refers to a variant of the undergraduate bachelor’s degree containing a larger volume of material or a higher standard of study, or both, than an “ordinary”, “general” or “pass” bachelor’s degree. Honors degrees are sometimes indicated by “Hons” after the degree abbreviation, with various punctuation according to local custom, e.g. “BA (Hons)”, “B.A., Hons”, etc.
- In the United States, honors degrees require a thesis or project work beyond that needed for the normal bachelor’s program. They also often have a minimum GPA requirement for entry, which can vary between institutions. Some institutions do not have a separate honors program, but instead refer to bachelor’s degrees awarded with Latin honors, which may be based either on GPA or class position, as honor’s degrees.
- Honors degree are usually the ideal learning setting for ambitious university students where students get the chance to attend smaller classes, interact with full-time faculty, live in the honors housing community, and sometimes receive priority registration.
- College honors programs are designed to facilitate academic challenges and growth opportunities for exceptionally motivated and academically strong students.
- Honors education promotes lifelong learning through personal engagement, intellectual involvement, and a sense of community.
- Honors students may receive more favorable attention from faculty, even those who do not teach honors-level courses and also an edge for the merit-based scholarship.
- Honors credentials, including excellent grades and a promising thesis, can be a springboard for leaping into graduate, work or law school or medical school

Tips (Sentence Completion)
|
While reading the sentence for a sentence completion question, the best method is to plug in your word inside the blank space, having considered the tone (positive /negative), and then consider looking at the answer choices. Half of your job is done if you know what to expect from the answer choices. It could be an everyday-used-word that makes complete sense.
